MULTIVOLTAGE 110V-240V.

Very Classy, a Bit Rare & Cool Retro Mid Century Modern Designer style. All recapped, rebuilt on some stages & Upgraded to be worthy of Daily Use in 2019. More than just a Pretty Amp.

This is the first Akai Amplifier that came out before the Akai AA-7000 receiver that has similar Retro Designer looks. The very earliest is the AA-5000 that appears to be 110v only from ones we've seen, it is all Germaniums. This AA-5000S is slightly later with Silicon Outputs & Drivers if still some Germaniums in the earlier stages.

Power Supply Rebuilt & Upgraded with high value main capacitors, 4mm Speaker Sockets fitted in the original Screw fitting holes. Recapped & Upgraded. The two boards have the MM Phono, Preamp-Tone & Power amp on one board with wide separation as L+R are on two boards. This as original makes a bad wobbly noise on turn-off, so we altered that to turn off with only a mild click & fade away sound like a typical non-Relay Amp. On Headphones a typical quick 'bump' on turn-on is unobtrustive. On our Tannoys just a very tiny low sound on turn on, no hiss hear & barely any with Volume midway. Better than expected on Speakers.

Great Sounding amp, it sounds very decent on our Tannoy Golds, crisp clean sound with decent bass. This is still a more Specialist-Collector amp as well as the Stylish looks, if it's good enough to use Daily. Germaniums in the Preamp do have slight hiss heard on Headphones if you'd need to listen hard to hear any hiss on 15" 95dB sensitivity speakers. The amp has a pleasing sound, not over-modern sounding, crisp & bassy but also with some 'warmth' that may suit some listeners better than more upfront amps.

Rear Inputs are old-obsolete Tape Head, MM Phono, Tuner, aux at standard CD level, Tape Record-Monitor & Aux. speaker Outputs are One Pair as the 4mm Sockets or an old Akai idea of using 6.3mm Mono Jacks. 8 ohm speakers only, not an amp for 3-Way speakers that drop Impedance below 4 ohms. It's early. Mains Voltage has several options if you can't select them all. only the usual ones, ie no 140v. Includes the Blanking Plugs as pictured. 3-Core Mains cable with Earth fitted as always.

Front Controls are on the Top Row Bass L, Treble L, Balance, Bass R & Treble R. Lower row is Power On, Speaker On-Off, Mode, Volume, Loudness, Low & High Filter & Input Selector.

Condition is very nice on this amp, all original. Wood sides in walnut are lacquered as made unlike the oiled AA-7000 sides, just a few light horizontal marks on the right side face. Fascia in high grade & all original knobs & switches. Probably the Best Looking one of these & for sure the Best Sounding for our Rebuild. It's Rare, It's Classy, it's For Sale as it's not one we'd use much, if a great one to stare at, so here it is.

A medium-larger sized amp 421mm wide x 155mm high x 269mm deep if 290mm Max Depth inc fittings.

THE AMP ITSELF WEIGHS ABOUT 8.2KG

THIS AMPLIFIER HAS BEEN FULLY SERVICED, CLEANED, CHECKED VISUALLY BY TAKING APART, RUN IN FOR HOURS AS WELL AS USED BY US!

WHY PAY EXTRA FOR A SERVICED AMPLIFIER WHEN OTHERS ARE CHEAPER?

All amplifiers & receivers we sell as "SERVICED" means they have always been CLEANED, CHECKED, FULLY TESTED, FULLY ADJUSTED, USED FOR MANY HOURS and are offered as good reliable amps ready for you to use. We've sold over 100 Amplifiers & Receivers now & buyers are clearly pleased with the item they get! A Serviced Amplifier is a Reliable Amplifier & will have had any problems dealt with before we sell it. Our checking is way beyond a basic PAT test, each amp is taken apart & examined. We are Qualified Electronics Engineers with over 20 years experience of Amplifiers. All amps over 20 years old need servicing as parts need attention to work properly or faults, failures, damage, noisy operation and unreliability may be present. Any faults we can repair & our work is of a very high quality. On each listing we put at least 12 large clear photos of all aspects of the item including the insides.

This is a Vintage Electrical item. No Warranty or Guarantee is offered or implied but be assured we have Serviced & Tested it to a very high standard before sale.
