The Best Amplifier of The Early Akai Series, after the Akai AA-8500 Receiver from 1970 came this with some great design in the more 1972 style casing. Great Sounding for our Upgrades which are more than we usually do for Selling amps, if we like to research. Here's one of those ones. Top of the Range in 1972 others were AA-5500 & AA-5200.
For the Want to see how good this one is, we Recapped & Upgraded it a lot, which brought out a Very Clean Detailed Sound, if originally it was rather dumbed-down & just ordinary sounding. Now it's Fast, Punchy with clean Midrange, Smooth Treble & Lively Bass. Sounds great on Tannoy Gold Speakers, a great match which is unusual for a 1972 amp. If the case was a more expensive design it'd be an amp into the £800+ range.
Recapped on all Stages Top & Under. New Preamp & similar Transistors to lose the light hiss. Main Power caps are now 4x 10000µf which is 20000µf per channel. One of the Earliest Fully-Complimentary Power Amp designs here too. The ICs on the mid board are only for the Microphone Stage, the rest is Transistors.
Condition looks tidy but not perfect. Top lid is powder coated but needed a quick satin black spray to tidy. This could be done far better or redone with Powder Coating. Side cheeks are ply with Vinyl Wrap, how much nicer if they were done in Walnut Veneer. The Fascia is Gold Anodised with Solid Metal Control Knobs that look smart. The Fascia Screen Printing isn't perfect & we quickly wrote in a few bits so you'd understand the amp. The 'Power' On-Off wording plus minor losses here & there, look closely.
Rewired with 3 core mains as we always do & as the Speaker 'B' set was fiddly screws we fitted 4mm sockets. To use Speakers to realise the 4mm are Speaker B & the 6mm Mono jacks are Speaker A, a 1960s hangover by Akai.
A larger sized amp 431mm wide x 143mm high x 284mm deep if 310mm Max Depth inc fittings.
THE AMP ITSELF WEIGHS ABOUT 11.5KG
