This is our Marantz 2385 185w Monster Receiver. UK-EU Multivoltage version. We've decided to put this up for sale, more to show What We Can Do as the Buy Price plus the huge amount of work in this isn't for everybody. Trade-Ins & Pay in Instalments welcome.

You see these 2385s online for silly prices up to $4000 even. these prices are Bullshit to be Frank & Nobody buys unless around the $2000 mark. But then as with ours, they get Sold On as they don't sound very good. Ours had us at it's 4th owner in 9 months, it's the glossy wood case one you'll see online, if we managed to get the Original Metal Lid as you can see.

These Huge Amps are well made, but they've been Used Since New, yet No-One Ever Thinks To Service Them. This 2385 as arrived sounded dull, slow & bloated, not a good sound at all. But we got it to try a Monster Receive so it gets our Usual Service, Recap with Upgrades. Now it sounds fresh & lively, far from the lousy sound it was as original. We use it on our Speakers & will continue to.

To even just service this amp is a huge job & for he open grille lid, it's got 40 years of dirt to clean as well. Really loads to do & a job that takes care & planning. We recapped it all apart from Tuner & the 2 main capacitors that are still good as the amp has been used. Has 12 output transistors & 11 have the Marantz wording if one is the same era & maker without the Marantz word. Feet we got the proper Marantz pillar type ones, the photos show 1" rubber ones. FM Tuner works fine in Stereo, AM & Phono are working fine. Rear Antenna intact & moves right. Rear Fuse holder we replaced the cracked original with an identical type we had as a spare. Thick Mains cable is original.

The ICs in the Preamp Tone stage we were concerned about, if our Nov 2018 blog shows we tested it & the amp with Tone set flat or 'Cancelled', not Bypassed as the Signal still goes through both ICs. It tests as any amp with full output at Frequency extremes such as 50Hz & 15kHz we tested it at as Blogged. To use Tone, the IC runs on lower voltage so the only difference is you can't play Full Bass or Treble at higher Volumes, if perhaps you wouldn't anyway. The ICs are no problem is the reality & we've upgraded to bring a more punchy upfront sound than the rather wallowy softer sound even as upgraded.

Condition is decent, all the Fascia parts are original, beware the repro Fascias lacking the centre part groove line. All controls are original. Some minor marking on the upper edge of the fascia as shown. The amp has the Original Lid we got from Poland, it's in decent if not perfect grade & would look better redone with a respray or powder coat, if it looks tidy as you can see.

We've put LED bulbs in, as typical these don't shine very bright even with new Vellum behind the Tuner. The Light Bulb assembly we repaired so it's intact, but not perfect.

Sounds great, reliable, safe & easy to use.

If you want to buy this, it's up for sale. Price is realistic, if it's far from cheap & £2000 won't buy it. Big 27kg amp but we can pack it safely to post Worldwide.

Size as per the User Manual data is 491mm wide, 178mm high & 435mm deep. It's big but more compact than ones like the oversized Rotel RX-1603 at 33kg that we've had to Upgrade.

THIS AMPLIFIER HAS BEEN FULLY SERVICED, CLEANED, CHECKED VISUALLY BY TAKING APART, RUN IN FOR HOURS AS WELL AS USED BY US!

WHY PAY EXTRA FOR A SERVICED AMPLIFIER WHEN OTHERS ARE CHEAPER?

All amplifiers & receivers we sell as "SERVICED" means they have always been CLEANED, CHECKED, FULLY TESTED, FULLY ADJUSTED, USED FOR MANY HOURS and are offered as good reliable amps ready for you to use. We've sold over 100 Amplifiers & Receivers now & buyers are clearly pleased with the item they get! We are Qualified Electronics Engineers with over 20 years experience of Amplifiers. All amps over 20 years old need servicing as parts need attention to work properly or faults, failures, damage, noisy operation and unreliability may be present. Any faults we can repair & our work is of a very high quality. On each listing we put at least 12 large clear photos of all aspects of the item including the insides.
