MAXPLANK PLINTH FOR GARRARD 301
THIS IS FOR SALE IF YOU BUY THE GARRARD 301, OR ONCE THE 301 SELLS, IT'LL NOT BE SOLD BEFORE THE 301 SELLS AS THE 301 WILL STAY WITH THE PLINTH TO KEEP IT SAFE.
We bought this plinth in 1998 for our Silver-Grease 301 & stained the wood to look more vintage as medium oak. Weight is 10.25kg just the plinth with lid not included.
Maxplank was mentioned in the vintage hifi news supplements & at the time only solid marble plinths were around, this wood one served us well & is a solid heavy unit in use, made from layers of thick plywood with the spacing cut per piece. Originally it had an extra plywood layer but it wasn't visually pleasing as now the lid & plinth are the same height. Four sorbothane feet as fitted are ideal for isolation on floorboards. No need for any sorts of springs that the old plinths used.
Still has the SME fitting holes as made, plus extra ones from when we tried a Garrard TPA arm with it until getting the SME IV (since sold). Included is the box spanner as the Maxplank guy included to unscrew the imperial size 301 bolts
Perspex lid was a home-made job by the maxplank guy, not a more custom made one. As you can see the left hinge cracked the hinge area off as the side wasn't glued. Been stable for 8 years now as we glued it. Some use on the lid as typical. The wood isn't perfect but for what would be a £600+ plinth today, £200 is a nice price & it looks smart beyond the lid which you could get remade.
