We've had a few STR-6055 since 2013 & for other models, we'd not really gone into Upgrade this one more. The similar TA-1140 amplifier we did upgrade more a couple of years ago getting great results if never got round to trying this more. The last 6055 we sold got a fresh listen to & realised it's a lot better than considered. So this got a Deeper Upgrade & it sounds way better & crisper than before. Oh what a one to miss! We since got the complex STR-6065 (EU only model) so this one can sell now.
The Tuner in this is the New 1971 One with 6 Ceramic Filters. Our 6065 has the very similar tuner & picks up Compressed FM very well & plays it cleanly too. A No-ICs tuner one of the Best we've heard. Hidden Gem in this too. The STR-6120 & 6200 earlier tuner easily beaten by this one. Picks up a lot of FM Stereo stations with a basic 'T' antenna. 'Auto Stereo' mutes the interstation noise.
This is the EU version sold in Germany, neater with just one fuse on the power supply. The UK one with this Primary fuse, plus Secondaries & even Speaker fuses is a bit over-fused.
'Aux 2' on the front panel is a 6.3mm Jack socket, get a 3.5mm to 6.3mm adapter & plug in portables. Very few amps have this feature.
For some smart upgrades including 22000µf pricy main capacitors, this transforms into a much fresher crisper amp with more of what you want in clean Midrange & Deeper Bass. They seem to have made a great amp & tamed it down as the price STR-6055 $299 to STR-6065 $399 is quite a jump if the specs don't rate the power as we'd do for the upgrades. 40w 6055, 60w on 6065.
Sounds great on our Tannoys, we put those Gold Blocks on the Speaker screws, if 4mm ones could be fitted by fiddly drilling out, sold as pictured original as good to use still. New 'Kettle' type mains socket cable included.
FM Stereo plays with ease, Stereo bulb lights. AM, Phono & Aux inputs good.
Great Condition for a 50 year old amp, this one was fitted in a built-in case so New Rubber Feet added. High grade fascia with just a mark over the rightmost Rotary & a small line on the left lower edge. Tiny nick over the Bass tone on the tuner window edge. Metal case has light corrosion on the grille area, WD40 brings it out tidy as pictured.
A larger sized amp 440mm wide x 144mm high x 312mm deep if 350mm Max Depth inc fittings.
THE AMP ITSELF WEIGHS ABOUT 12KG
