This is a full sounding 20w, not the feeble 20w of later amps. We upgraded the power amp by fully rebuilding it with new transistors & resistors. Sounds great now & runs cool. Suits early Tannoy speakers perfectly, rich powerful punchy sound doesn't sound like a typical 20w for our upgrades.
We did some more upgrades June 2017 to compare with the other Trio KA-6000 & TK-140X. This amp now sounds great with a detailed rich sound. 20w power sounded great on headphones. On Speakers it sounded very capable, if comparing to a 60w amp the sound is obviously smaller, but here it has all the Quality our Upgraded amps have. You'll like this one!
The original spec of this great little amp was feeble so to upgrade it to see how good it can be. We have the TK-140X & put the similar sort of rich but detailed sound into this & it worked out well. It now has clean treble detail, a full midrange & good deep bass. It is 20w & isn't going to be as punchy as a 40w amp, but sounds nice. Previously it was nice but very limited & upgrading brought out more weaknesses so we've done it properly with some redesign.
UPDATED: The tuner lighting is awkward in this as it relies on foam strips to balance the light, if we've now got it looking correct, subtle lighting with no overspill & it sounds better now for a few alterations, crisp punchy sound.
Recapped on Power Supply, Power amp, Phono & Tone stage. Tuner works fine on MW with correct volume, but as often with Trio, the FM tuner is silent so doesn't work. We've had a few of these Trio with bad tuners & it's one we've not been able to work out, the transistors are good, it's been recapped but no sound. Some don't listen to the Tuner anyway & only use it for the amp, Trio amplifier stages of the 1967-69 era are up there with the best.
All in high grade, the metal lid has the wood effect paint that looks very 1960s Groovy Retro Man Pad. We've fitted a 3 core mains to update the pre 1970 mains spec so safe to use without a turntable grounding it. Fitted 2 new bulbs. Looks great & sounds great. The speaker connectors are screws, if the Gold 4mm plug blocks fit in well as the tab part keeps them in place. We could fit a set of 8 of the 4mm sockets as detailed on the Sales Page.
Includes the Original box in reasonable if complete condition, plus User Manual & info and even the Service Manual.
A typical sized amp 470mm wide x 133mm high x 309mm deep if 347mm Max Depth inc fittings.
THE AMP ITSELF WEIGHS ABOUT 10KG
